THIS GUY CAN'T BE REAL...

The Lost Boys was a pivotal part of the collective childhoods of most peeps born in the late 70's through the early 80's.

Released in 1987, it featured the whose who of cool dudes and dude-ettes: Keifer Sutherland and Corey Feldman from "Stand By Me,"

Corey Haim from "Lucas,"

(wow, dual Corey assault)

Alex Winter who would later be Bill S. Preston Esq. in the "Excellent Adventure" epics,

Jami Gertz (Less Than Zero, Solarbabies... yes, the post-apocalyptic roller skate movie which also starred the "Lost Boy" Jason Patric)...

...but if you ask anyone who the true star of the Lost Boys is, they'll probably say this dude:

Need your memory jogged?:

The song is "I Still Believe" by Tim Cappello, or as you tube lovingly calls him: "the buff dude that plays the sax in the Lost Boys"...

Who the h-e-double-thoothpicks is Tim Cappello, and why did he get such a prominent spot in this film? The first thing I though was, "this guy can't be real." How could someone be so buff and talented at the same time... it's not possible. History has tried in the past:

Right Said Fred:

(Hey Jason, you know way too much about forgettable pop phenomenons): The song "I'm Too Sexy" embodies portions of the Jimi Hendrix composition "Third Stone from the Sun." I only realized this because I actually read the liner notes from the album which state: "Thanks to Jimi Hendrix for the supreme inspiration." So thanks to Right Said Fred for not being "too sexy" to turn me on to Hendrix, but as far as Cappello-ness, not quite buff enough.

Then there was Linear:

"Sending All My Love"

Linear were part of the late 80's "Freestyle" movement alongside The Cover Girls,

Dino,

(no, not that Dino...)

(...word)

Lisa Lisa,

Nocera,

Company B.,

etc...

While they were buff, they were not quite as talented?
But what about Capello? Was this guy for real?

The first thing I had to do was find out if the dude performing in the film was the actual singer of "I Still Believe." (At this point in the 80's body doubles or "visualizers" were quite prominent...

Milli Vanilli:"real" Milli Vanilli:

Technotronic ("Pump Up The Jam") featuring Felly...

...in reality was Technotronic featuring Ya Kid K:

Then there was Martha Wash from the Weather Girls:

You might remember her amazing, gospel-tinged voice from the disco hit "It's Raining Men," she was also the real voice behind these two groups:

So myself and my fiance are on the interweb last night trying to solve this mystery, we put "Tim Cappello" into Google images and found this:

Same buff dude with the sax, but a different outfit. Whoa, then a Wikipedia search gave this up:

Buff dude with Tina Turner?

From Wikipedia:

Tim Cappello is an American saxophonist whose work can be heard on the tracks "We Don't Need Another Hero" and "One of the Living" from Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome, and "I Still Believe" from The Lost Boys.

Cappello was born in Silver Lake, Westchester County, New York. The instruments in his repertoire include tenor saxophone, keyboards, percussion, and harmonica. Cappello is also a vocalist and composer. His professional career began alongside Billy Crystal. For five years, Cappello provided musical improvisations on piano and saxophone to accompany Crystal's comedy.

Cappello went on to record and tour with Peter Gabriel, Eric Carmen, Carly Simon, and Ringo Starr. From 1984 to 1999 Cappello was a member of Tina Turner's band.

He starred in Tina Turner's music video for "We Don't Need Another Hero," the title track for the Mel Gibson-Tina Turner film, Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome. From then on, Cappello acted in several films and television series, including Hearts of Fire (with Bob Dylan), Tap (with Gregory Hines), and The Lost Boys, in which he performed a single from the movie soundtrack. Capello's television credits include The Equalizer and Miami Vice.

Cappello's other pastimes include body building, songwriting and scoring. He has written songs for and performs with New York band "The Ken Dolls". He has scored for the PBS Frontline series and has recently completed a composition for "The Rat Pack", a four hour Arts & Entertainment special.

Cappello also performed with the 1999 version of Ringo Starr's All Star Band, of which he was a member in 1992. Currently, he is working on various musical projects.

Capello can be sighted behind one of the backup dancers in this live version of "Proud Mary."

Wikepedia also gave this up:

...go get u some Timmy Cappello and be sure to see the updated pictures:

I found a few sights and blogs that say the man on stage in the Lost Boys was a body double, namely, Danny Capello, Timmy's brother...

But c'mon, we gots multiple photos, a website, a Wikipedia bio and footage of him on stage with Tina Turner...

I don't know about y'all, but I, for one, still believe.
